Queen Anne’s Co. man arrested at BWI for gun in carry-on

A Queen Anne’s County man was arrested at Baltimore Washington International-Thurgood Marshal Airport on Sunday, after he was apparently found trying to bring a gun through security. Officials say Transportation Security Administration officers caught the man attempting to carry a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun past a security checkpoint.
TSA Officers say they detected the handgun, that was loaded with 10 rounds including one in the chamber, in the man’s carry-on items as it went through the X-ray machine conveyor belt at the airport’s checkpoint on Sunday evening. Authorities with the Maryland Transportation Authority Police responded, confiscated the firearm, and then arrested the Grasonville resident on weapons charges. There was reportedly no impact to airport operations.
This is reportedly the seventh gun that TSA Officers have found so far this year, and the third this month. Just last Thursday, Officials say they 40 caliber gun in the carry-on bag of a Washington, DC resident. All three people accused of attempting to bring on guns, were arrested. In 2014, the TSA says they found 14 firearms at the airport.
The TSA reminds the public that firearms, firearm parts, and ammunition, are not allowed in carry-on bags, but can be in checked bags if they are unloaded, properly packed, and declared to the airline. Those who bring firearms to the checkpoint face the possibility of criminal charges, and fines up to $11,000 from TSA.
