Miscommunication leads to voting confusion in Rehoboth Beach

Some miscommunication has led to some apparent confusion regarding the Rehoboth Beach municipal election.

According to Mayor Samuel Cooper, there was discussion of the city waiving a city charter rule that requires residents who want to vote in the election to have been living in the city for at least six months prior to election day.

Word reportedly got out and some residents were advised that the city would allow residents who only lived in the city for 30 days to vote. Mayor Cooper tells 47 ABC this is not the case. He says the city is sticking to the charter.

The City of Rehoboth Beach is holding a municipal election on Saturday. Polls are open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. According to the city’s website, two seats for City Commissioner will be contested. Those who win those seats will serve three years.

The candidates are J. Patrick Gossett, Paul Kuhns, Richard Perry, Jr. and Willis Sargent.

Those who are qualified to vote but aren’t registered can no longer register. According to the city charter, voter registration ended at the end of business on the second Friday in June, which was June 12th, 2015.
