Man charged in infant homicide

Matthew Holbrook is now being held for allegedly killing his 5-week-old daughter Nakiah in December.
According to charging documents obtained by 47 ABC, police started investigating the December death after an autopsy ruled it a homicide.
Among other charges, Holbrook is facing first degree murder and first degree assault.
Police said Holbrook came to Crisfield Police Station Thursday after learning investigators wanted to speak with him. During the meeting Holbrook reportedly told them that on December 2nd, the day of Nakiah’s death, he had been working out at home when Nakiah began crying and vomiting.
Holbrook reportedly confessed that he then stopped working out, picked up a water bottle and struck Nakiah in the head with the bottle several times while lifting her from her bed. After cleaning up the vomit, he then put Nakiah back to sleep. However, officials said Nakiah never woke up.
Nakiah’s autopsy indicated that she died from blunt force trauma to the head, which had caused hemorrhaging to the brain.
Holbrook also reportedly confessed that a week prior to her death he had struck Nakiah with a video game controller, causing her to cry and vomit.
According to police, after Holbrook was arrested after he finished his interview.
47 ABC learned Holbrook’s mother,Tanisha Thomas, and step-father, William Thomas, live across the street from Holbrook.
On Friday when 47 ABC informed them about the confession, they said they were “shocked” and “absolutely floored.” They also said they had no knowledge that their grandchild was being abused and that to their knowledge, Matthew Holbrook had a loving relationship with his daughter.
