Man, 42, missing after sailboat sinks near Bay Bridge

Police say one man is missing after a 17-foot sailboat sank in the Chesapeake Bay near the Bay Bridge.

Maryland Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Candy Thomson says the boat ran into trouble around noon on Sunday. She says it sank so fast that the two adults and four children on board didn’t have time to put on life jackets.

Thomson says another boater nearby came to their aid and pulled one man and four children from the water. The children range in age from 5 to 13.

Thomson says the missing man was seen going under the water. He did not resurface. The man is 42 years old and lives in Upper Marlboro.

There have been 16 boating fatalities in Maryland this year.
