Lincoln man arrested after reported shooting that hospitalized two people

A Lincoln man is now behind bars after he apparently shot a toddler and another man.

According to Delaware State Police, Juan J. Shirey, 21, of Lincoln, was standing outside a house Sunday afternoon on West Mayhew Drive when his mom saw him with it. According to reports, his mom tried to get the gun from him because of some recent drug and weapons charges. Police say Shirley began to hand the firearm over through a window of the house when a round went off, and and hit the house.

The bullet apparently traveled through an exterior wall and into the living room of the house where is struck a 23-month-old boy and the boy’s uncle. Shirey’s mom, and three other kids were in the living room, but they were not injured.

The child and the man were both transported to a local hospital. The man was treated and released. Police say the child was eventually flown to A.I. duPont Children’s Hospital where he was admitted in good condition.

Shirey was taken into custody and is now facing multiple charges including first degree assault, and six counts of first degree of reckless endangering.

He is being held on bond.
