Indian River Football Preview

The Indian River football team takes the field this fall without 35-year veteran coach, Ray Steele, but he left the program in good hands with IR grad, Phillip Townsend. IR won a state championship in Steele’s first season as a head coach of the Indians – that state title in 2011 was the last of all Henlopen South schools.

The Indians graduated Kei’Juan Major, who was a stand out wide receiver for the Tribe last season, will be missed. IR will also be missing, running back, Kiante Sturgis, who transferred this season to Sussex Central. The Indians have several players who have been able to step up and fit into those missing pieces to this offense.

Coach Townsend is very excited about this upcoming season and says he will keep the foundation the coaches in the past worked so hard to build, but he also will put his own twist on the strategy. He will not run a quarterback by committee, but has yet to name the starting quarterback.

Indian River is eager to take the field and make a run for the playoffs this 2015 season.
