Frederica caretaker accused of stealing $50k from patient

Police in Smyrna say they have wrapped up a nearly year and a half long investigation, into theft and forgery involving a caretaker in the area.

Smyrna Police Department says on Tuesday, they charged 51-year-old Dawn Cirillo, of Frederica, for multiple counts of theft, forgery, and unlawful use of a credit card. According to the report, back in March 2014, the Police Department says someone came to them about suspicious activity their checking accounts, credit cards, and money market accounts.

Police say their investigation showed that in August 2012, Cirillo was hired as an in home care-taker for the victim, and started forging checks from the victims account, and using their credit cards without permission. From August 2012 to July 2015 Cirillo reportedly stole approximately $50,003 from the victim.

Police say they contacted Cirillo about the investigation, and she voluntarily turned herself into the Smyrna Police Department. She was then arrested, and charged with theft $1500 or greater and where the victim is 62 years of age or older, 15 counts of unlawful use of a credit card, 22 counts of forgery 2nd degree, and 20 counts of theft under $1500 where victim is 62 years of age or older.

Cirillo was arraigned, and released on $128,000 unsecured bond, pending future court appearance.
