Former cheerleader sentenced for rape charge in Sussex Co.

A former Baltimore Ravens cheerleader has been sentenced after pleading guilty to the 4th degree rape of a 15-year-old boy in Sussex County.
Molly Shattuck, 48, was sentenced to a suspended 15 year prison sentence, meaning she will have to serve just two years of probation for having sex with a 15-year-old boy last Labor Day Weekend at a vacation rental home in Bethany Beach.
Before the judge handed down the sentence, Shattuck gave a tearful “I’m sorry” to the victim’s family and asked for forgiveness from her own.
Michelle Lipkowitz, Shattuck’s attorney who traveled from Baltimore to Delaware, told 47 ABC “She is determined at this point to continue to demonstrate to all involved and all affected her sorrow, her remorse and her full acceptance of her responsibility of any poor decision that she made”.
In court, Eugune Maurer, who represented Shattuck said she underwent many “struggles” in her life including dealing with her sister’s addiction problem and coping with her husband leaving her.
“We all go through periods of our lives where we are emotionally troubled about one thing for another and I think we may all find ourselves doing something that’s completely out of character that we would never do”, explained Maurer.
The parents of the victim also spoke in Court on Friday, calling Shattuck a rapist. The victim’s father claimed her motives were not compassionate, but calculated.
State prosecutor John Donahue had recommended Shattuck serve 22 months in prison.
It’s not clear how the family feels about the judge’s decision.
Shattack must report every other weekend to the Violation Of Probations Center in Delaware for a total for 48 weekends, register as a Tier Two sex offender for 22, continue therapy and pay a restitution of more than 10,000 dollars to the victim’s family.
“Am I happy? I don’t want to use the word happy, because I don’t think anybody can be happy with a situation with a situation like this.” Maurer told the media. “Am I satisfied with what the judge did and do I think think he did the right thing and was wise? Yes.”
Shattuck pleaded guilty back in June to one count of fourth-degree rape, which is a felony.
