The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating a fire that destroyed a Washington College building on Saturday evening.

Authorities tell 47 ABC local fire departments were dispatched to a building on 515 Washington Avenue around 7:53 p.m. Saturday after an employee at a nearby  business establishment reported it.

We’re told the 15,000 square foot building was leased by Washington College and used for administrative  purposes, primarily  for its finance  and  IT  departments.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the  fire destroyed  the
unoccupied building and its contents leaving the estimated damages around 3.5 million dollars.

Authorities say over 80 firefighters battled the flames, which took about 2.5 hours to control. Four firefighters reportedly sustained minor injuries during fire suppression, and we’ve learned all of them have been treated and released from medical attention.

The origin and cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.

Anyone with information in reference to this fire is asked to call the State Fire Marshal’s Office at 410-713-3780.
