Ex-Gov. McDonnell to appeal to US Supreme Court

A lawyer says former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell will appeal his public corruption convictions to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Shortly after a federal appeals court said on Tuesday that it wouldn’t revisit the case, McDonnell attorney Henry Asbill declined to say whether his client will have to report to prison.
A three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals had upheld McDonnell’s convictions in July. The full 15-member appeals court then rejected McDonnell’s petition for a rehearing Tuesday.
A jury in September found McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, guilty of doing favors for wealthy vitamin executive Jonnie Williams in exchange for more than $165,000 in gifts and loans. McDonnell was sentenced to two years in prison.
