Dover PD lists unclaimed property on new Pinterest page to find owners

Dover PD Pinterest page - Unclaimed property

Police in Dover are trying a new tactic, to get found property back to its proper owners.

Dover Police say they have launched a Pinterest Page, in hopes of reuniting owners with their unclaimed property. In the past, the Department says they had no way to showcase the items to the public. Police say most of the items are turned into them, or are found by Officers, as lost property, while others are recovered from criminal investigations.

From the looks of the page, it appears many of the items are wallets with ids, bags, and portable electronics. On the first day of the new program, 32 items were listed, and more will reportedly be added as time goes on.

Police say those wanting to claim items will need to prove that it is theirs, to the Evidence Technician. There are apparently several ways to do so including, showing a government issued identification like a driver’s license, SSN Card , or birth certificate; a utility bill or other proof of residence; bringing a receipt or box of item being claimed with matching serial number; the ability to log into electronic devices with correct username and/or password; or any other form of ID or proof of ownership the evidence technician deems necessary.

If you believe you have unclaimed property listed on the site, please contact the Dover PD’s Evidence Technician, Dean Anderson, at 302-736-7126 between 8:00AM-4:00PM, Monday-Friday to schedule a pick-up appointment. To check out the page, click here.
