Bethany Beach fire under investigation

Officials from the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office say they are investigating a fire that occurred in a three story, wood framed residence on the 29000 block of Cove Way around 11:15 P.M. Wednesday.

Fire Marshals say the blaze caused heavy damage to that structure and exposure damage to two other residences nearby.

The fire was reportedly noticed by neighbors who contacted the occupants, who apparently were able to escape and were uninjured.

Fire Marshals say firefighters from Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company arrived on scene to find heavy fire in the garage with extension into the main residence. Crews from Millville, Roxanna, Frankford, and Rehoboth Beach Fire Companies also responded on the initial dispatch.

Deputy Fire marshals announce the fire’s origin was located in the area of the garage and the cause is still under investigation.

Authorities say there is nothing suspicious about the incident at this time.

According to the Fire Marshal’s report, fire damages were estimated at $750,000.00. Victims of the incident were being housed by neighbors at the time of the news release.
