Assateague State Park turns 50

The Assateague State Park has reached it’s golden years, the big 50.

Friday August fourteenth has officially been proclaimed Assateague State Park Appreciation Day. The park held a special ceremony that afternoon in celebration of their fifty years.

Visitors shared memories of their experiences at the park. Some of them have camped there every summer since the park opened fifty years ago. However, the event featured some new comers like Maryland Lieutenant Governor Boyd Rutherford. Friday was his first time at the park.

The Lieutenant Governor goes on,”I think it’s beautiful. I’m down here for MACO and come down and be a part of something really nice and get away from all the policiticans, Did I just trash all the politicians? Haha.”

The Lieutenant Governor tells 47 ABC he plans to make trip back to the state park in September.
