Apple, peach, grape production in Va. in top 15 in US

Virginia ranks among the top 15 producers in the nation for apples, grapes and peaches.
The rankings are from the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. It found that total apple production for 2014 was estimated at 195 million pounds. That ranks the state sixth in the nation.
The number of acres devoted to apples totaled 10,400.
As for grape production, it weighed in at 8,800 tons last year. That ranks the state seventh in the U.S.
Peach production came in at 5,300 tons. Virginia ranks 13th in the nation for peaches.
The figures were released by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
