Two arrested on heroin charges during Crisfield traffic stop

Two Crisfield men were arrested on Monday, after Police say suspicious behaviors led them to find drugs during a traffic stop.

Crisfield Police say around 1:15 AM, Officers stopped a white Chrysler 300 for a traffic violation on Charlotte Avenue. While walking up to the car, the Officer says they noticed two people inside the car, and a strong scent of marijuana. As a second Officer arrived on scene, Police say they observed the passenger in the front seat, trying to hide something between the center console.

The Officers say they asked both men to get out of the car, and saw packaged heroin in the center console, along with a couple of the glassine bags with white powder that he appeared to have ingested already, clenched in the fist of the passenger, 27-year-old Corey Jenkins. Police asked Jenkins about it, and he reportedly told the Offices that he had swallowed several bags, and was feeling sick.

An ambulance responded to the scene, and started to treat Jenkins, but he apparently got combative and disorderly with first responders, and even bit the finger of an Officer while they were attempting to physically restrain him to the gurney. Both Jenkins and the injured Officer were treated, and released with minor injuries.

Police say they seized 60 bags of heroin that was packaged for sale, estimated street value of $1,200, .7 grams of marijuana, a little over $100 in cash, and the 2005 Chrysler 300 car.

The driver, 28-year-old Jonathon Brown, was charged with CDS possession with intent to distribute, CDS possession within 1000 feet of a school, CDS possession other than marijuana, and CDS possession paraphernalia. He was held on a $50,000 bail, but posted on Tuesday.

Jenkins was charged with CDS possession with intent to distribute, CDS possession within 1000 feet of a school, CDS possession other than marijuana, CDS possession paraphernalia, along with assault 1st, and 5 counts of assault 2nd degree. He is currently being held on a $100,000 bail, but has a hearing scheduled for Thursday.
