Talbot Co. woman accused of stealing $100k+ from Waterman’s Association

Lisa N. Gowe, 40, of Neavitt, Maryland

A Talbot County woman stands accused of stealing money from a non-profit organization,of which she was reportedly the treasurer and event organizer.

Maryland State Police say their Criminal Enforcement Division Upper Shore, started an investigation into a theft from the Talbot Waterman’s Association. According to the report, 40-year-old Lisa Gowe, of Neavitt, was the treasurer and event organizer of the association, and had full access to their bank accounts from March 2010 through January 2015.

Investigators say a search of bank records revealed that there were numerous checks written, withdrawals made, outstanding debits, and electronic money transfers made, that had not been authorized by the group. Police say they found that Gowe had used the money for herself, without the Talbot Waterman’s Association knowing, or giving permission.

Gowe was charged with theft scheme $100,000 plus, and turned herself into the MSP Easton Barrack on Thursday, where she was given a criminal summons without incident.

Gowe has since been removed as treasurer, and no longer has access to the accounts. Police say the investigation is on-going at this time.
