Scaletta pleads guilty to gun charge

The man accused of pretending to have won certain military honors pleaded guilty Thursday to a separate weapons charge.

Jason Scaletta was arrested in April. When detectives searched his home they found a gun under his bed.  Gun possession is a violation of his parole, which he was on for previous felony convictions.

In court Thursday, the state asked the judge for the maximum penalty of three years for the gun charge. However, the judge sentenced Scaletta to time served. That sentencing means the time Scaletta spent behind bars from April until Thursday is the only time he will serve for that charge.

Charles Jannace, Scaletta’s attorney says, “We’re really pleased with the outcome. We got time served on a case. We fully expected a three year sentence, but the judge was sympathetic to the kind of case it was.”

Although Scaletta walked away from this case, he remains in custody. He’s facing a number of possession and theft charges related to stolen valor for allegedly profiting off of military decorations he did not actually win. A trial date has not yet been set for that case.
