Salisbury man sentenced for crack cocaine charges

A Salisbury man has been convicted, and sentenced, for his third felony drug conviction.
Back in June, Keyon Smith was convicted of one count of maintaining a common nuisance and one count of possessing cocaine. The charges stem from a several week long investigation, where the Wicomico County Narcotics Task Force worked undercover, that wrapped up with the search of Smith’s house, and his arrest.
Inside that home, investigators found 39 individually wrapped pieces of crack cocaine, along with a surveillance system and a safe. On Friday, 33-year-old Smith, was sentenced to 25 years without the possibility of parole for the common nuisance charge, along with an additional 4 years for the possession of cocaine.
This conviction is Smith’s third felony drug conviction in the last 15 years. In the past, he was also convicted of possession of a handgun when prohibited. At the time of the incident, Smith was on parole for felony drug possession, after pleading guilty in 2009.
He was sentenced to 10 years back then, but was released in less than two, for substance abuse treatment. Smith however didn’t complete the program, and was sentenced to 8 years in 2010, and paroled shortly thereafter.
Following Friday’s sentencing, Smith is not eligible for parole until 2040.
