Pocomoke City Police Chief announces he was “fired”

The community came together to support Police Chief Kelvin Sewell who confirmed that he was terminated on Monday by city leaders.
Folks from the community, clergy from churches all over the city of Pocomoke turned out to support the credibility of the man they still call “the chief.”
Sewell told 47 ABC that he can’t say exactly why he was fired, because his lawyer has asked him not to but he did say he was called in by the city council and the Mayor on Monday and told he was terminated.
The city has yet to officially announce that they’ve fired Sewell.
Folks who turned out for the meeting demanded answers. They describe Sewell as a chief who maintained order in the city and had a good repertoire with those living here.
Sewell himself said there hasn’t been a homicide in the city since he took the job in 2010.
Supporters started a petition and so far they’ve collected more than 300 signatures…and a number of people left with additional sheets so they can go door to door on Sewell’s behalf.
“Between 350 to 400 people, I was just touched to know, so much I’ve done for this community, especially things I have forgot, I’ve done in this community, and it all came back tonight.” Said Sewell.
One of those supporting Sewell is Reverend James Jones, who said, “We’ll go the limit, there’s not going to be any violence. There’s not going to be any assaults. They’re not going to destroy any property. But they’re going to hear us whether they want to or not. And they’re going to act on our request whether they want to or not.”
We’re told they hope to submit those petitions to the city council at their next meeting on July 13th.
If you missed tonight’s opportunity to sign the petition, I’m told the community leaders are trying to set up a public location where people can go to add their name to the petition.
Kelvin Sewell became Pocomoke City Chief of police in 2010 after 25 years as a homicide detective in Baltimore City.
