Oxford pays tribute to Chattanooga victims

A Talbot county town honored the memories of the 5 service members gunned down last week in Chattanooga Tuesday.
After getting tagged in a post on social media about a Chattanooga restaurant setting plates out for the fallen marines and sailor, Oxford Chief of Police Patrick Maxwell contacted local restaurants to see if the same could be done in their town.
Maxwell tells 47 ABC that he received considerable support from the restaurants in the area and all five ended up putting out plates Tuesday night.
Although Oxford is far away from where the shooting occurred, Maxwell believes this gesture still has meaning.
“It’s important that we show respect for those members of the United States military that have paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives and also the current members of our military that our serving today,” Maxwell said.
The Delaware Senate Republican Caucus announced Tuesday afternoon they are performing a similar tribute.
An empty table setting with a white tablecloth will be on display at the Senate Republican offices in Legislative Hall until July 28th.
According to officials, it will have an overturned wine glass, a red rose, a black napkin, a lemon wedge, salt, a bible and a candle.
47 ABC was told those items symbolize emptiness, sorrow, love, bitterness, faith and hope.
