One arrested on rape charges in Dewey Beach

A Lincoln man is facing charges, after he apparently raped a woman in a local beach town.

Dewey Beach Police say on July 22 around 5:30 AM, Officers responded to reports of a sexual assault on Bellevue Street. The victim, a 19-year-old Pennsylvania woman, was rushed to Beebe Hospital, where she was treated for the injuries that happened during the alleged assault.

Police say they identified the suspect as 21-year-old Corey Mitchell, and got warrants for his arrest on a rape second degree charge. They continually attempted to apprehend Mitchell, but weren’t able to do so.

On Wednesday, Maryland State Police reportedly located Mitchell in Wicomico County, Maryland. He was apparently taken into custody without incident, and is now being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center without bond.

Officials say The Delaware Department of Justice is working on extradition.
