Mikulski pushes for Tubman on the ten

United States Senator Barbara Mikulski has introduced legislation to put civil war activist Harriet Tubman on the face of the ten dollar bill.

The decision was made earlier this year by the United States Treasury to put a woman on the bill in 2020 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote.

“The ten would be perfect and I definitely believe if anybody should be on that ten dollar bill, it’s got to be Harriet Tubman,” said Royce L. Sampson, the head tour guide at the Harriet Tubman museum in Cambridge, Md.

Mikulksi believes Tubman was a trailblazer in her time and those that 47 ABC was able to speak today, agreed that Tubman belongs on the ten.

“She embodies some things that we hold dear as Americans, she fights for freedom, equality,” said museum visitor Greg Hess.

Not only would placing Tubman on the ten dollar bill be a huge step from women, but it would also be a huge step for African-Americans as well said one visitor.

“I think it would just validate for many African-American women that we are a fabric of the United State, not just bystanders of a culture of a climate,” said Suzette Gherbi.

According to reports the United States Treasury will launch a website so the public can weigh on the face of the new bill. They are also asking for input over social media using  the hashtag  #the New 10.
Regardless of who will end up in Hamilton’s old spot officials say the decision will have be made by 2017.
