Little Lego builders converge on DSF

The Delaware State Fair was packed with tiny builders Saturday, trying their best to sculpt a masterpiece made of Legos.
Over 40 kids, in three different age groups, participated in the competition.
All contestants were given a random set of Legos and only a certain amount of time to complete their masterpiece. With the tight deadline, emotions were high and some of the sculptures were even higher. However, as we learned from a veteran of the lego building contest, you just have to let the idea come to you.
“You can’t really know what you’re doing until you see what pieces you have. So I just kind of looked at the pieces and formulated something,” said Rachel Winston, who’s competed in the Lego building contest as long as she can remember.
Winston ended up taking second place in the contest, but as we learned, success in the Lego building contest is a family affair. All five of the Winston kids that were eligible participated.
As we learned from the second youngest Winston, Mercy, the competition brings out a little sibling rivalry.
Over the years the Winston family has taken home a bunch of awards over the years, but they admit they don’t practice much at home.
Although Rachel was the only one who placed this year, the Winston’s told 47 ABC they’ll be back next year looking for first place.
