Learning while competing at the DSF

After they spent a good part of their day in the classroom, Future Farmers Association of America (FFA) students took to the dirt inside of the Quillen Arena to test their skills and expand their knowledge.

The tractor driving exercise, among others are apart of what we’re told is a combo of the FFA Super Bowl and Final Exams.

“They’ve already learned a lot of the skills in the classroom and also in the lab area.” Said adviser Will Currey.

Students focused on safety as well as proper technique while maneuvering different farming equipment.

When asked about what the FFA program does for farming students, adviser Craig Malloy says, “We have events that are not just tractor related, there’s a skid steer event as well. So using that on the job to move material, it’s something that gets them prepared for that.”

Both advisers tell us that the highest scoring student at the fair will advance to the FFA East Regional Competition in Springfield, Massachusetts.
