Family loses everything in house fire

Jeffery Wolfenbarger left his home to purchase a new television, 45 minutes later when he returned his house was almost completely engulfed in flames.

“I was completely stunned – we lost everything,” Wolfenbarger said.

Fire officials say the fire started in the main bedroom and then quickly spread to the unfinished top floor. Once the fire reached the top floor, officials believe the exposed wood caused the fire to quickly spread to the rest of the house.

With the fire marshal’s investigation still ongoing, Wolfenbarger said he still questions whether the fire started in the main bedroom.

“I don’t even know where it started, what caused it and that’s the biggest worry,” Wolfenbarger said.

Wolfenbarger said the home, which was finished in April right before his family began renting it, was problem free to his knowledge.

Fortunately for the Wolfenbarger family, no one was home at the time of the fire. Unfortunately, none of the Wolfenbarger’s property was covered under insurance.

“I left to go work out of town for two months and didn’t complete the renter’s insurance for this house to transfer it and didn’t realize until my wife said something last night,”Wolfenbarger said.

When 47 ABC spoke with Wolfgenbarger, he was trying to salvage anything he could from the burnt remnants of his house. He told 47 ABC he was still trying to cope with the reality that his house, was gone.

“I have not been to sleep since yesterday,” Wolfenbarger said.  “I’m numb I can’t… I’m racking my brain as to what could cause the fire.”

The Wolfenbarger family says they have received help from family and friends, who are helping them in a time of need.
