Dr. Michael Vienna Leaves His Legacy At SU

Dr. Michael Vienna arrived at Salisbury University in 1989, but what most people did not know back then, was that SU struck gold with this hire. Throughout his first four years as the associate athletic director, Dr. Vienna was appointed as the director of athletics at SU in 1993 and the rest is history, literally.

During his tenure, Dr. Vienna helped lead all 21 Gulls varsity sports teams to a Division III National Championship match – earning 17 national titles and 12 individual national titles. Amongst the title games, the teams on campus have competed in over 7,000 matches and won over 5,000 of those matches. Despite the head coaches looking to their superior, Dr. Vienna, grateful of what opportunities he has brought to them – the athletic director is more appreciative of what the coaches and athletes have given to him over the years.

One of the areas that Dr. Vienna is most proud of is the academic accomplishments these athletes have produced. While this incredible athletic director was a guest on DSI this past Saturday, he said that his athletes having the highest GPA’s amongst the SU student body is something that makes him incredibly proud.

Dr. Vienna, our 47ABC sports team thanks you for all that you have done not only at SU, but for the entire Delmarva community.
