Cause of Selbyville house fire under investigation

A fire that apparently ripped through a Selbyville home, is under investigation.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office says the flames started around 8:30 PM on Thursday night, at a home on Old Mill Bridge Road. Firefighters from the Roxana Volunteer Fire Company reportedly responded, and found heavy fire coming from a back bedroom on the first floor of the house.

Officials say the unfinished second floor was also showing a large flames. Roxana VFC, with help from Millville, Bethany Beach, Frankford, and Rehoboth Beach Fire Companies, reportedly controlled the blaze.

Investigators say the fire started in that first floor bedroom, but that they still aren’t sure of the cause. Officials say people were living in the house, and it was equipped with working smoke detectors, but that no one was home at the time of the fire.

One firefighter reportedly suffered minor injures when he fell through the ceiling of the attached garage, but refused treatment. Damages are estimated at $300,000.
