Cambridge man charged with attempted murder of police officer

A Cambridge man is facing attempted murder charges, after he apparently collided head-on with a police patrol vehicle.
Cambridge Police say on Monday night around 8:35 PM, Officers responded to reports of a motor vehicle crash in Locust Street. The caller reportedly informed Officers on the phone that the person who had hit them, had fled the scene. While responding to that call, Police say they received another call about the suspects location, putting him on Glenburn Avenue. Police reportedly responded there, and found the vehicle, a 2005 Chevrolet pick-up truck, pulling out of a parking lot.
The Cambridge PD Officer reportedly stopped his patrol vehicle, with his lights and siren on, but instead of pulling over, Police say the suspect truck accelerated and crashed head on into the patrol car, with the Officer still inside. According to the report, the suspect continued to accelerate, pushing the Officer and his patrol vehicle.
Additional Officers reportedly arrived on scene, but the driver still apparently refused to listen, and had to eventually be physically removed from the truck. Police say they then identified the driver as 49-year-old Craig Souris.
Both the Cambridge PD Officer and Souris were taken to local hospitals, where they were treated for minor injuries, and released. Police say during their investigation, they found that Souris had hit at least 20 vehicles, before he made it into the parking lot of Chesapeake Woods Nursing home on Glenburn Avenue. Investigators say Souris also drove to the back of that property, hitting two sheds and the nursing home itself, in the process. There is reportedly structural damages to the building.
After being released from the hospital, Police say he was arrested, and charged with attempted 1st and 2nd degree murder, assault 1st and 2nd degree, assault 2nd degree on law enforcement, and reckless endangerment. He is currently being held at the Dorchester County Detention Center, without bond.
