BELL Program comes to Wicomico County

The Blind Industries and Services of Maryland kicked off the second week of their BELL Program Monday.
This is the first time BELL has come to Wicomico County. It’s a braille enrichment, literacy and learning program for blind and low vision children. The two week program is working with eight children between the ages of 3 and 14. They’re learning how travel using canes, read and write braille, and learn techniques from adults living with blindness or low vision.
Mindy Demaris, a braille teacher with the program says, “They learn an incredible amount from seeing adults with canes and watching how they do things. It’s a wonderful modeling experience for them. For the parents, it’s a tremendous gift because the parents get to see functioning and successful adults with blindness.”
Anyone who is interested in their child being a part of the BELL Program you can contact 410-845-2333.
