After losing everything, community rallies around Powellville family

The community rallied around a Powellville family that lost everything a fire this past February, Sunday at the Moose Lodge in Westover.

The Franklin family were on their way home from the hospital on February night when they learned their house had gone up in flames. They lost three pets in the fire and all their belongings. What made matters worse, the Franklin’s say they were in the process of switching insurance companies, so they were not able to replace anything they lost in the fire.

Currently the Franklin family tells us they are trying to rebuild on the property, but the cost of doing so is daunting. The family still lives on the property in a motor home while they rebuild.

After learning that the Franklin family needed money to help rebuild their property, family members and the Rock Samaritan group partnered up with the Moose Lodge and Brothers In Arms Motorcycle Club to put on the fundraiser.
Bonnie Hasting, the mother of Gary Franklin, the father of the family, spoke on behalf of the family and said the family is touched by how many people came out in their support.

“The Moose Lodge has just been wonderful on what its done for us. It’s just wonderful people, it’s just wonderful people,” Hasting said.

The family is continuing to take donations, and if you want to help, you can contact the “Rock Samaritans” on their Facebook group.
