A new twist on a classic sound at the DSF

If you’re at the Delaware State Fair and are in the mood for a blast from the past, look no further then the Grand Master Concert Organ right near the main gate.

The organ is owned and operated by Dennis Robinson, who has taken a modern approach to the classic carnival organ. Instead of playing music of a music roll, like most organs do, Robison’s is completely controlled by computers. Robinson tells 47 ABC, it’s the only one of its kind in North America.

Not only does the organ play music, there’s an entertainment act to go along with it.

In the front of the organ is a mini-stage set up with miniature drummers, flute players and more.

To add to the exclusivity of Robinson’s performance, he claims he’s the only person in America still traveling with a carousel orchestra.

During the day Robison said he plays lighter tunes so he doesn’t bother the other vendors and stands around him. However, when evening comes and the crowds start to get larger, Robinson said he puts the organ into full force.

“When the full organ is on it’s quite a show to watch and the kids love it. It’s like a big toy,” Robinson said.

While 47 ABC was there, Robinson put the organ into full effect for us. Sure enough, as soon as the music started to play, people started coming in to watch and hear the performance.
