17 charged in Worcester County drug operation

A local Sheriff’s Office says they have charge 17 drug dealers, during a specialized undercover operation.
The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office says back on June 22, the Worcester County Criminal Enforcement Team wrapped up a four month long investigation with 10 arrests, and 7 warrants. That investigation was reportedly started following citizen complaints and local leaders, about the increase of drugs including heroin and cocaine, in Pocomoke City.
During the operation, law enforcement from the Criminal Enforcement Team reportedly posed as drug users, to investigate those who were distributing the narcotics. According to the report, 73 drug transactions were done by those undercover, and they were all recorded on surveillance.
That surveillance then led to the felony criminal charges for 17, along with search warrants that reportedly recovered more narcotics as well as a loaded .38 caliber handgun, which was apparently in the possession of a person who was prohibited by law from owning a firearm.
Pocomoke City Mayor Bruce Morrison stated, “I commend the Criminal Enforcement Team for their expertise and outstanding efforts in cleaning up the streets of Pocomoke.”
State’s Attorney for Worcester County Beau Oglesby added, “The selfless devotion that the undercover officers gave in this investigation was nothing short of heroic. They put their families and personal lives on hold to become part of an underground criminal community that glorifies violence and values nothing above their own greed. The City of Pocomoke is safer because of the efforts of the Criminal Enforcement Team.”
Sheriff Reggie Mason further stated, “Today, the men and women of the Criminal Enforcement Team lived up to their motto ‘Detect, Disrupt and Destroy’. They along with the other allied law enforcement agencies that participated in this operation deserve the communities’ deepest gratitude.”
The Sheriff’s Office say the Worcester County Criminal Enforcement Team had help from The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office STAR Team, Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, Berlin Police Department SWAT Team, Maryland States Police Gang Enforcement Unit, Ocean City Police Department Narcotics Unit, Worcester County Bureau of Investigation, Wicomico County Narcotics Task Force, Maryland State Apprehension Team, Dorchester County Narcotics Task Force, Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division, Maryland State Police Gun Unit, Homeland Security Investigations and The Worcester County State’s Attorney’s Office.
