Wallops celebrates 70 years

Wallops NASA celebrated it’s 70th birthday today and opened its doors to let the public peek inside.
NASA officials say that over Wallops long and decorated history, the base has become on of the best in the agency.
Last week the flight operations program was recognized as the best of all the federal aviation programs.
Today, despite the cloudy weather, tons of people still showed up to see the sights that are normally blocked off from the public.
“People drive by here maybe on the way Chincoteauge or Salisbury and see this little base over here and they don’t really know what goes on here,” said Wallop’s pilot Rich Rogers. “People think of rockets when they think of Wallops flight facility because that’s our bread and butter but we go the premiere flight operation in NASA.”
Wallops opens its door every five years to the public, so if you missed it the next time you’ll be able to see the base won’t be until.
