UPDATE: Berlin vandals sentenced to community service

Three teens who were charged with a string of vandalism in Berlin, have been sentenced.

On Friday, 18-year-old Nicholas Bonser, and 18-year-old Jordon Denton, each pleaded guilty to twenty separate counts of malicious destruction of property, and two counts of malicious destruction of property scheme. The charges stem from a wide range of vandalism that happened in the Town of Berlin, back in January. Officials say that Bonser was initially charged as juvenile in the incident, but during a hearing the State’s Attorney requested the change to adult status, which was subsequently granted.

A juvenile who was also charged, was found involved by a Circuit Court Judge in juvenile court, which is virtually the same as a guilty plea in adult court. Between the three offenders, there were 66 separate convictions.

Bonser and Denton were each sentenced to 150 hours of community service, which must all be served within the Town of Berlin, and each must pay a restitution of more than $8,948. The two teens were also ordered to write apology letters to the Town of Berlin.

State’s Attorney Beau Oglesby said of the investigation, “The Town of Berlin should be extremely proud of the men and women in the Berlin Police Department. Their immediate response, thorough investigation and consummate professionalism have been nothing short of exemplary.”
