UPDATE: Accomack Co. teen found dead in water

A grim discovery ends the search for a missing teen from Tasley, Virginia. Monday afternoon, law enforcement teams recovered the body of 15-year-old Alvaro Lopez-Costaneda, in the water near the fishing pier in Cape Charles.

Sunday night, the teen was reportedly in the water with his teenage cousin and another relative, when all three started to have troubling in a strong current.

One person made it back to shore on their own, the other was rescued by an off duty US Coast Guard member.

Officials with the Cape Charles Police Department say the search for the teen began just after 6:00 PM on Sunday and continued throughout the night, ending at 4:30 AM Monday morning. The search began again less than an hour later at 5:15 AM and officials say the primary focus transitioned into a recovery effort.

At 2:40 PM Monday afternoon, Lopez’ body was recovered approximately 200 yards off the beach in five feet of water. 

Lopez-Costaneda apparently didn’t know how to swim.
