UMES students use crowd funding for mission trip

In the millennial age, there are many alternative ways to raise money. Crowd funding seems to be leading the way.
Right now Gofundme appears to be one of the most popular crowd funding sites, especially for international mission trips.
Students in the physician assistant program at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore are using the site to raise money for a mission trip to Peru this August.
Students will be working with the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children; helping attend to the medical needs of orphans and other residents in Peru. Chantalle Jackson is a first year student in the program. She says the opportunity to use the site has allowed them to raise money from people all across the country.
Jackson continues, “When I got money from other people I made sure to tell them I would keep them updated with my journey. I’ll make sure I have just the best time, take lots of pictures, and learn things. When I come back I want to share it with my friends and family that helped me get there in the first place.”
It’s going to cost students at UMES about $2,000 dollars per person to travel to Peru. For more information on the trip, click here to access Jackson’s Gofundme page.
