U.S. and South Africa reach decision on poultry exports

A decision on poultry exports from the U.S. into South Africa has officially been reached, ending South Africa’s tariffs on U.S. poultry.
In the past, tariffs had effectively blocked U.S. poultry from being imported into South Africa. This was apparently, in an effort to grow South Africa’s own poultry sectors and contribute job opportunities for their farmers.
Senator Chris Coons says this lift can also help open opportunities in other international markets.
“We want to grow the percentage of American poultry that is exported to the developing world and if we’ve been successful with South Africa, I pray we will be successful with India, with China, with Nigeria that use similar techniques to ban US poultry exports.” Says Senator Coons.
American poultry products are expected to enter the South African market by the end of this year.
