South Tops North In Baseball Senior Game

The South put on a dominate performance in their 15-4 win over the North in the annual Bayside Senior All-Star Game. Stephen Decatur’s Grant Donahue was named the games Most Outstanding Pitcher, while Parkside’s Jack Goertzen was. named the games Most Outstanding Player.

The South would go right to work in the first inning. Parkside’s LaBron Hilliard would draw a leadoff walk, steal second, and then come home after fellow Ram Jack Goertzen sent an RBI single into center. Bennett’s Luke McCulley would pinch run for Goertzen, and later steal home off a wild pitch to give the South a 2-0 lead. Colonel Richardson’s Caleb Johnson would then pick up his second strike out of the game to get out of the frame. Parkside’s Hunter Parsons got the start for the South, and the Maryland commit was dealing, recording 2 strike outs in the 1st. The runs continued to come in for the South in the 2nd inning, after McCulley smoked a liner up the first base line for a 2 RBI single, scoring Bennett’s Caleb Taylor and Crisfield’s Brett Tyler.

Donahue then came in to pitch for the South, and brought the heat on the mound, recording several strike outs in his 2 innings. Meanwhile, the bats stayed hot for the South. Goertzen sent a ball up the first base line for a 2 RBI single scoring Decatur’s Justin Meekins and Bennett’s Michael Jean-Charles to stretch the lead to 7-0. WiHi’s Ben Davis was able to find some room in center for an RBI single of his own to make it 8-0, as the South was clicking on all cylinders. Tyler then roped a RBI double to deep center and the rout was on at 11-0. Bennett’s Brock Kragler then ripped a deep shot for a 2 RBI single to make it 13-0. 

The North though continued to play, and would work the bases loaded with no outs in the 5th. Kent Island’s Nikko Edwards would drive in the first run of the game for the North off a RBI fielders choice. Then St. Michael’s Louis Richer lifted a shot down the first base line for a RBI single. Edwards would get caught in a run down, but would avoid the tag and slide safely home for the score. The South though would close it out for the win.
