Small cottage fire in OC quickly extinguished thanks to neighbors

Officials in Ocean City say they were able to quickly put out a fire, thanks to the quick alert of neighbors.

The Town of Ocean City says on Thursday around 10:00 PM, OC Communications received a call from the Lazy Lizard about a fire at 1st Street and St. Louis Avenue. The Ocean City Fire Department quickly responded to the area, and found a fire at a small efficiency cottage in the backyard of a nearby home.

“The early notification of the fire department led to a quick extinguishment by arriving engine crews,” commented Ocean City Fire Department Captain Josh Bunting. “Damage was limited to the cottage of origin, which was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Thankfully, no one was hurt”

Officials say they evacuated neighbors while putting out the blaze, but they were able to return home shortly after it was under control. The Ocean City Fire Marshal’s Office is reportedly still working to find the cause of the flames. Anyone with information about the blaze is asked to contact their office at 410-289-8780.
