Senate Committee votes in support of First Amendment bill

The Delaware Senate Judiciary Committee voted in favor of a bill aimed at protecting the First Amendment Rights of American journalists.

The bill is intended to protect all kinds of journalists from “libel tourism,” in which plaintiffs file libel law suits in foreign courts that do not have the same protections found in the U.S. Constitution.

“I’m delighted that it looks like three bills will get out. That’s a good day in anybody’s book,” bill supporter Sen. Dave Lawson (R-Marydel) said.

The legislation, Senate Bill 98, now heads to the State Senate for a full vote.
