Sen. Coons weighs in on same-sex marriage

The U.S. supreme court’s impending decision on same-sex marriage could possibly put the issue to rest once and for all.

According to reports, the court is expected to decide late this week or early next week whether gay and lesbian couples have a right to marry in every state.

47 ABC spoke with Senator Chris Coons, who says he is looking forward to the outcome of this decision and shared his personal view on this controversial matter.

“I don’t think it’s fair for us to say to gay and lesbian Delawareans or Americans they don’t have the same rights to enjoy employment or housing or access to marriage as other couples do.” He says. “Frankly, I don’t think it threatens my marriage if a gay or lesbian couple chooses to sanctify and solidify their commitment to each other.”

Currently, same-sex couples can legally marry in 36 states and the District of Columbia.
