Salisbury Council addresses attorney fees

There was no support from the Salisbury City Council to allocate extra funds for the city’s legal attorney during a special meeting held on Tuesday.

Because of the additional legal services needed in the past year, the city was asked to move 25,000 dollars from the contingency surplus to put toward attorney fees. We’re told the surplus is generally considered as an “emergency fund”.

Council vice-president Laura Mitchell says they were not in support of the budget amendment, because they do not receive bills in a timely manner; therefore, it is difficult to gauge how much is needed.

Mitchell says unless the money is found elsewhere in the budget, there could be no more legal work performed in the remaining two weeks of the fiscal year.
