Rylie’s Law passes in Senate

Senate Bill 90, commonly referred to as Rylie’s Law, was unanimously approved in the Delaware Senate Tuesday.
The bill would make it legal for Delaware children under the age of 18 to use medical marijuana- based oils to treat debilitating medical conditions. The legislation would expand the state’s medical marijuana laws to allow physicians to certify the use of cannabis oil to treat children who suffer from intractable epilepsy.
Currently no form of medical marijuana is legally available for those under 18 in the state of Delaware. The legislation is named after nine-year-old Rylie Maedler of Rehoboth Beach. She’s recovering from a surgery that removed a bone tumor in her face. Following her surgery, she began to suffer from seizures.
Rylie’s mother testified in a Senate committee hearing last month explaining that her daughter’s prescribed medicine to treat her seizures and other symptoms hadn’t worked. The legislation now goes to the House of Representatives for consideration.
