Rachael Ray Nutrish wet cat food recalled due to elevated vitamin D

Attention pet lovers, a popular pet food brand has recalled some of their cat food products. Giant Food says Rachael Ray Nutrish has removed some of their wet food products, due to the potential of elevated levels of vitamin D.

The following products are included in this recall:
· Rachael Ray Chicken Lovers Variety Pack Wet Cat Food, 33.6 oz., UPC 7119000777, with Best By Dates thru Dec 1 2016
· Rachael Ray Nutrish Ocean lovers Variety Pack Wet Cat Food, 33.6 oz., UPC 7119000778, with Best By Dates thru Dec 1 2016

Officials say the elevated levels are because of the natural levels of vitamin D found in the fish ingredients, and is generally important for regulating calcium and phosphorous in cats, but at high levels, it can cause health problems. Symptoms usually show between 12 and 36 hours after intake, and can include vomiting or diarrhea, increased thirst and urination, and muscle tremors or seizures. Cats presenting with these symptoms should be seen by a veterinarian immediately.

Those who have purchased the products should throw away any that is left, and bring their receipt back to the store for a full refund.
