Proud parents of an angel

Friday 47 ABC caught up with the first female Blue Angel’s pilot ever Captain Katie Higgins  who flies the C-130 or “Fat Albert” as the Blues call it in the air shows.

Saturday we were able to catch up with her parents William and Jan  Johnson who made the trip down to Ocean City from Severna Park, Md. along with their neighbors to watch their daughter fly.

Mr. Johnson, who flew A-7’s and F-18’s in the Navy,  said him and his wife couldn’t be more proud of their daughter.

Mrs. Johnson said they knew Katie could achieve anything she set her mind to, but when her daughter called with the new that she was going to become the first female Blue Angel’s pilot ever, Mrs. Johnson was ecstatic.

“Its just so exciting I cant even put it into words it’s just like seriously really we were so excited it was just so awesome,” Mrs. Johnson said.

Mr. Johnson was equally as proud.

“You know you live through your children in a lot of ways and when we heard how excited and happy she was it was like okay we’ve done good,” Mr. Johnson said.

Saturday wasn’t the first time the Johnson’s got to see their daughter in flight.   Earlier this year they were able to make the trip out to California to see her first flight as a Blue Angel.

Both parents said they always knew Katie was drawn to service in one form or another.  Even as a young girl, they said, Katie always wanted to find a way to help other people before helping herself.
