Possible healthcare changes in Delaware
Delaware has received conditional approval from the federal government to switch to a state run health insurance exchange under the Affordable Care Act.
Despite that state officials have said they are holding off on their end of the decision whether to implement a state run system or keep the joint federal system for a few more weeks.
Currently Delaware is one of seven states operating exchanges with the help of the federal government, but a looming U.S. Supreme Court case could change the relationship between federal and state healthcare funding.
Regardless of the outcome of the case Delaware officials hope the changes will not affect residents.
“My hope is that the changes that we make in the operation model will be seamless to the customer that they won’t even know because a lot of this is what we do from an operational perspective,” said Rita Landgraf, secretary of the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services.
According to state officials 84 % of Delaware citizens, roughly 19,000, purchase healthcare through the current system.
State officials told 47 ABC they will reach a decision on whether to keep their current model before August.
