Police: Pedestrian struck in serious crash

Police say a nine-year-old is in critical condition after he was apparently struck by a car just north of the Delaware-Maryland state line.
Authorities tell us the crash happened around 8:55 p.m. on Saturday. We’re told 52-year-old William Murphy was operating a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban northbound on Coastal Highway. Police say the nine-year-old victim, his friends, and his family members were attempting to cross SR1, when they stopped in the median near the raised curb because of a crossing signal change.
According to police reports, the nine-year-old victim darted out into the right lane of northbound SR1, directly in the path of Suburban. Police say after the impact, the Suburban immediately pulled to a controlled stop.
Police say the nine-year-old was initially flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) in Salisbury and later transported by ambulance to the Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. where he remains in critical condition.
Murphy and his wife, a passenger in his car, were uninjured.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.
Alcohol is not a factor in this case and no charges have been filed.
