Officials investigate fatal fire in Sudlersville

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office and Maryland State Police say they are currently investigating a fatal fire in Sudlersville.
Reports say at about 1:50 AM Friday morning, emergency officials responded to a home on Duhamel Corner Road, for reports of a fire. Nearly 40 firefighters responded to the one alarm blaze, which took them more than two hours to control.
Officials say one woman has died. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is reportedly working to confirm the identity of the woman, and determine her cause of death. Another woman was reportedly taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. Her injuries have been listed as non-life threatening.
The origin and cause of the fire still remains under investigation. Officials say it’s unknown if smoke alarms were working at the time of the fire.
The damage is estimated at $250,000.
