Gov. Markell announces “Escape from Lewes Open Water Swim Classic” event

Come September, the inaugural “Escape From Lewes Open Water Classic” 5K swim and 1 mile swim will be held. On Thursday, Governor Jack Markell announced plans and the schedule including visual representations of the race course, and he also discussed the community impact.

Hundreds of people from all across the country will make the trip to Lewes to participate in the first of its kind race and the beginning is sure to get the hearts pumping. Folks will start by leaping off a massive ferry vessel to begin.

In a press release sent to 47 ABC from DelMoSports, Governor Jack Markell says, “The Open Water Classic celebrates health, recreation, and a sense of community while also providing a boost for the local economy. Delaware is known for its first class events, festivals, and attractions; and the Open Water Classic will be no exception.”

The event which is scheduled for Sunday, September 27th, is expected to draw more than 1,000 participants.
