First female Blue Angels pilot inspires

Anything boys can do girls can do better, or at least just as good. That’s the message that Capt. Katie Higgins, the first female Blue Angels pilot, sends to every girl when she takes the controls of the Blue Angel’s C-130 aka Fat Albert.

Higgins comes from a long line of aviators. Both her grandfathers flew for the Army before the Air Force was formed, while her Father flew for the Navy. Higgins gladly followed their footsteps and took to the air with Marines.

However flying with the Blue Angels was always a distant dream, until last summer.

After a friend in the Blues told Higgins to apply to join Higgins sent in her resume and a short while after Higgins was donning the iconic navy blue, Blue Angels jumpsuit.

Higgins said it didn’t hit her until her first show that her dream had become a reality.

Now that she’s more than half a year in to her new gig, Higgins said she tries to inspire all the young boys and girls out there to possibly become aviators themselves and to remind boys that anything they can do, girls can do to.

“If I can do that, inspire a little girl to pursue aviation, to pursue the military whatever it is that she wants to do then I’m definitely doing my job,” Higgins said,”but additionally it’d be cool to show little boys that little girls can do this as well.”
